Attorney John R. Bates

John R. Bates graduated from law school in 1972 and has practiced law ever since. He was voted the outstanding student of his graduating class by the law school faculty and delivered the commencement address. He and his then law partner established one of the first legal clinics in the country in 1974.

He has taught law courses in several colleges and at Arizona State University College of Law. He has spoken to various lawyer groups throughout the country, including Ohio, about bankruptcy.

In 1976, he won the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, Bates v. State Bar of Arizona, which, for the first time, established the right of lawyers to use yellow pages and websites for advertising. Mr. Bates is considered a national authority on bankruptcy exemptions. He created a website dealing with exemptions for bankruptcy lawyers which is used by lawyers across the nation. You may look at it here:

His practice has been limited solely to bankruptcy law for many years. He has filed thousands of bankruptcies for residents of Northeast Ohio. In 2011, Mr. Bates joined Attorney James F. Hausen to form a larger bankruptcy law practice that would make it possible to represent clients from all over Northeast Ohio.

Attorney James Hausen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree with honors in 1996 at the University of Akron. He passed the CPA exam in Ohio in 1996 on the first attempt. At that time less than 30% passed the whole CPA exam on the first attempt. He worked in accounting from 1996-1998 while pursuing his M.B.A. degree. He received his M.B.A. degree in 1998 when he decided to go to law school.

He graduated from the University of Akron School of Law in 2001 with a Juris Doctor and Master of Taxation degree and passed the bar exam in Ohio on the first try. He was then hired at a construction company as a job cost manager from 2001-2005.

In 2005, he took his accounting skills and legal skills to helping clients file for bankruptcy at one of Ohio's largest bankruptcy law firms. There he directly supervised or filed hundreds of cases.

In 2008 he was hired at the Chapter 13 Trustee Office in Canton, Ohio where he helped prepare and review the financial statements for the Trustee as well as helping the Trustee review thousands of cases.

In 2011 Mr. Hausen joined Attorney John Bates to open a law practice in which Mr. Hausen is able to use his many years of accounting and legal experience in helping people all over Northeast Ohio file for bankruptcy.

Ms. Denison has an Associate of Arts from Stark State College, an Associate of Arts in Business Administration from American InterContinental University with honors, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in Business Administration from Colorado Technical University Magna Cum Laude.

She worked for 11 ½ years with the official Chapter 13 Trustee's office in Canton where she acquired a thorough knowledge of handling Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases. Together with Mr. Hausen, who also worked for the trustee, she enables us to provide one of the most powerful Chapter 13 practices for our clients available anywhere in Ohio.
